Week 11

Kodaly Lesson

                                                                   Dalcroze Lesson

Orff Lesson

These 3 lessons are all very different and similar in multiple ways. They all three focus on teaching young children music. The Kodaly and Orff lesson both focused on singing. The Dalcroze lesson was using no words and just their bodies moving to the music. All three used their bodies in some way like the hand signals in Kodaly's, the dancing in Dalcroze's and the patting and tapping in Orff's. Out of all three of these videos I enjoyed watching the Dalcroze lesson the best.

Week 7

This is a good example because Lucy has an amazing voice. She showed great posture, and she is singing the proper way instead of through her nose. She carried her strong voice throughout the whole performance.

This video is a poor example. She does not have good posture and her voice is very inconsistent.

Week 6

Last week's blog was to video yourself doing a rhythmic poem then doing the poem again using tete and ta's. At first I found this to be a little difficult for myself. I wanted to speed up my clapping instead of keeping a steady rhythm. After several practices I think I was able to successfully keep a steady rhythm to the best of my ability.
I was extremely surprised to watch your video and see that I did my poem right using the tete and ta. I changed it a few times while I was creating it. It helped me to write it down then pat it out. I was actually really unsure if I did it right. I believe writing it out is what helped me get it right.
I think my rhythm was starting to speed up at times the second time I did the poem. That is something I think I could work on improving. I need to make sure no matter what I am saying I am keeping a constant steady rhythm.

Rhythm (week 2)

Rhythm to me can be a very difficult thing to describe. My definition of rhythm would be an arrangement of different sounds placed together to make a compatible piece of music. Rhythm can be a very simple mixture of a couple sounds or much more complex.

I really enjoyed Miss Taylor’s video. Music is not something I am real familiar with so not only would this video be great for younger children learning but also someone like myself. I liked the way she broke down what rhythm is and showed you by simply clapping her hands. I didn’t have much I disliked but I think she could have expanded more on rhythm but she did give a very good general definition.

Miss Taylor’s video was an excellent example of good teaching. She was able to catch my attention with the enthusiasm in her voice about what she was teaching.  She presented the material by showing visuals with the poster board behind her. Then she used examples by clapping her hands. Also for someone like me that is not as familiar with music, she used language and child friendly words. I think her video was enjoyable and can really help get a basic understanding of what rhythm is.
